About Us

Over 40 Years Experience!

Martha Burns Swim School was founded in 1971 by Martha herself. Martha started competitive swimming at age 11. She competed in two Pan American Games for the Mexico Olympic Swim Team.

Martha's love of swimming extended to her children, Marta and David, and she had them swimming by the time they were two-years of age. David was passionate about water, just like his mother, and was swimming competitively by age five. And by the time he was eight, he won third place in the 50-meter butterfly for the Minnesota AAU state finals.

Martha Burns Swim School - Her Story:

1971 - Martha founded and operated the swim school out of her home in Minnetonka.
1984 - David joined his mother, as an instructor.
1999 - The swim school reached over-capacity and Martha began building the Hopkin's site.
2000 - The Martha Burns Swimming School of Hopkins opened in the fall.
2001 - Sara Travis joined David and Martha, as their administrator.
2007 - The swim school, once again, reached over-capacity and this time Martha and David worked together building the Medina site.
2008 - The Martha Burns Swimming School of Medina opened to better serve the northern and western suburbs.
